I am a longtime Lori McKenna fan and booster. Ever since I heard her in 2002 I have been awestruck by her powerful talent. I write frequently about her on this blog, and reviewed Faith Hill’s record that contained three McKenna tunes last month. I am happy to report that Lori just got signed by Warner. The fact that a plumber’s wife and stay-at-home mother of five who didn’t start performing until she was 27 can get a record deal ought to be an inspiration to everyone no matter what your walk of life to follow your dreams.

I don’t often have goo dthings to say about the record industry but I am ecstatic that someone picked Lori up. I’m looking forward to years of good music from her.

Singer McKenna lands major-label deal

Faith Hill sings a few of her tunes, and the next thing you know Lori McKenna’s landed a major-label deal. That’s right, the singer-songwriter who lives in Stoughton with her hubby and five kids has been signed by Warner Bros. She’s been writing great songs for years, of course, but it took Hill’s covers — Mrs. Tim McGraw sings three McKenna tunes on her new CD, including the title track, ”Fireflies” — to finally catch the ear of a record exec. (It wasn’t hard. ”Fireflies” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top 200 and Country Album charts.) McKenna, who’ll be appearing with Hill on an upcoming episode of Oprah Winfrey’s chat show, is clearly enjoying the attention. Performing at Club Passim in Cambridge recently, McKenna cracked that she’d have taken her children to Disney World if Hill had recorded one of her songs, but since she recorded three, ”I’ll have to send them to college.”
