Senior General Relieved of Duties

Still busy closing down my business, looking for other gainful employment, and working on some programming projects (yuck) to make ends meet. I’m also working on the extended 4 song single of “My Pretty Ones” that should be available soon.
I just wanted to drop a line to let everybody know I’m still kicking and apologize for phoning in the blogging the last few days. I am highly curious to find out what the head of TRADOC did to get relieved. We are talking the second highest rank in the Army : a four-star general officer. They are near bullet-proof so this guy must have really stepped on his crank.
What’s the scoop with you closing down your business? That is if you don’t mind me asking.

I’m closing down my business for 3 or 4 reasons, all sort of inter-connected. I have spent the last five years or so focused on becoming a professional computer programmer and network security guru. I am currently an independant network consultant/administrator/technician. Earlier this year I decided that I was sick and tired of trying to be something that I am not: I am a passable programmer but I have to work harder than your average geek at it. Trying to force myself into the mold caused me to burn completely out. In addition I felt that life was too short to spend all of your time fixing problems, especially someone else’s. I determined to change my life and to start doing things I loved to do.
I became completely and utterly disgusted with everything related to computers and computer users (at least as it relates to programming or support). That attitude of “I don’t care about your problem and I think you are an idiot. Your business is an annoyance that isn’t worth the money.” shines through pretty clearly in my day-to-day dealings with many of the computer users I come in contact with.
Not good for business.
So now I’m looking for a different line of work and to get out of a situation where my personal reputation is connected to my business attitude. I’ll probably still work in computers for a little while until I am trained in something else, I just don’t want to work for me anymore. In a few years I should be able to have an advanced history degree which will equip me to be a Starbuck’s Barista.
