A Call To Arms

I am sure that by now we have all seen news reports of the despicable actions of Jim Phelps. While every single thing he does is odious, I was looking at their schedule and I see that his group is planning to picket a soldier’s funeral at Arlington on Monday morning. Special Forces Sgt. Jason Palmerton’s funeral is in their sights. That is simply beyond the pale. For more than one hundred and forty years Arlington has been the most hallowed resting place of our war dead. For me, and I am sure for many of you, it is sacred ground.

Regardless of how one feels about the war, interment at Arlington National Cemetery is the last and most solemn honor that this nation can bestow upon a soldier, sailor, airman, or marine. The Arlington detail is devoted to allowing families the honorable closure that is their due. Those families deserve to lay their loved ones down in peace. I am not sure what measure the park police can take to prevent this, or what can be done by our group, but I would like to see Phelps’ group kept far beyond eye and earshot of Sgt. Palmerton’s family, so that they cannot besmirch his final journey.

I would urge all of you to follow your conscience in this matter and to do whatever you can and believe is right to thwart this evil little man.

*As an open warning –and with full knowledge of the legal ramifications this statement entails–: Mr. Phelps, do not let yourself ply your trade within a days drive of me. I *promise* you, I vow that if you step foot within a soldiers funeral where I can stop you, you will go to the hospital and I will go to the jail. That’s a fact.*

I AGREE with you all they way. I’m a 52 year old grandmom with a son in Iraq and we just buried a young man in Portage In. where the westboro church of Kan. picketed. As they started to chant a veteran played a audio tape of GOD BLESS the U.S.A. to drown the shouts out.

We all know that hate isn’t exclusive to the world of the Islamists, though they’ve certainly refined it to a higher degree than anyone in the civilized part of the world has.
