I once had words with Kevin over at the Command T.O.C., called him a coward. Our little feud tripled my traffic in a single day and I didn’t want to increase traffic by feuding with other bloggers, no matter how idiotic or dishonorable they are so I archived all articles relating to him. That said, this quote of his takes the cake:

I’ve built my traffic and my blog up by being what I am and writing what I write. I offer a content rich site. I wanted to be known as a site that offers diverse content in a unique environment. That’s why I stopped our last little blog feud the last time (despite your assertions that I am living off of the government tit). If you want to trade punches, great, I’ll hop on over to your site and take some licks, but I’m not gonna track back just so I can get 400 more hits for one day from people that really don’t care about my site and are going to do nothing more than troll.

As far as supporting the troops or working for the Red Cross or a contactor. No contractor will hire me for combat zone work due to logistic medical reasons, but I do directly support deployed and returned troops in a number of ways that are none of your business.

Unfortunately they are not, as I said above, because the medical logistics involved in keeping me alive would be far too great and because my health would jeopardize the mission and my co-workers. Really… A lot of contractors are looking… and for good reason!
If anyone is thinking about getting a contractor job in the current hotspots keep in mind a few things.
1. Read your contract front to back.
2. Pay the cash for a lawyer to read your contract. Legal jargon = Big Green Weenie to the bung.
3. Find out what the companies evacuation policy is. There have been a few that have hired people, transported them over, then magically have “Lost” the contract. Some guys have been stranded for weeks while getting the company to arrange transport. Not to mention the trouble to get paid for the time the company left you hanging.
4. Insurance… Go get some. You will have to secure your own in many instances. Lloyds or some other high risk insurance company will be your best bet.
5. Security Arrangements. What are they? What is the companies plan to secure your safety? This also opens up the next can of worms.
6. Legal Responsibilities. What will the company do if you end up injuring or killing a National (in the line of duty)? I know of 2 cases where the company left the guys high and dry.
There’s more but I have hijacked this topic long enough…

Lets see, a contractor certainly has systems needs to support those in the front line. They probably have to pay $100k or so to get those folks here in the US. Why not do this:
Call one of those contractors and tell them that if the Army would have taken you you would have been making about $50k per year (What rank were you again? Maybe less). So therefore, you will put your great programming skills (or whatever skill you have) to work for them at $50k or less. No, you do not want more money… you are “volunteering” just as if the military would have taken you. I am sure you have put that offer together and they refused right? if they did, then you have little to no talent.
So, my point stays. All you blowhards who say, “If I could I would…” are full of shit. You do not. You put yourself and your needs above all else then to make you “feel good” you stick a bullshit yellow ribbon on your car and you have a pro military blog. You are full of shit.
As for respect from vets, it comes in all shapes and sizes. This appears to be the “I couldn’t hang, I am all washed up, wish I could have stayed in” board. I have a lot of respect from the over 100 soldiers who have contacted me, the many who are in Iraq who contacted me saying keep up the good work spreading the truth and organizations such as OPTRUTH and SOLDIERS FOR TRUTH which are organizaitons who are REALLY doing something to support the soldiers. Not just a group of people who take shots at others and then long for the day when/if they could have done something military.

My “data” is actually quite extensive and FAR more substantial than your short sighted and narrow minded views. It starts with 20 years of experience in the U.S. Army Special Forces and culminates with 2 tours of duty in Afghanistan. For anyone with at least half a brain, it is obvious that most of the military is comprised of what you call “right wing nut cases.” Maybe that’s because WE are the enlightened ones who believe in doing something based on REAL FACTS as opposed to the left wing who just discuss and promote ill-conceived theories. Still, anyway you put it, soldiers who do not support the war are a very small minority.

In the IRR when you hit your Maximum Time in Grade (TIG) they either automatically promote you or they have to release you. My TIG for CPT came up on 1995 (7 years), it was at that time I was promoted to Major (despite the fact that they lost the paperwork). During the recall, they admitted this and issued me a promotion letter dated February of 1996.
However, if I had accepted that, I would have hit my Max TIG for Major this year.
So, GEROXX… once you know how the system works, feel free to comment otherwise I suggest you forget commenting since you do not even have basic facts straight.

So, now that I have the facts straight, it is safe to say the you “earned” your promotion to Major (unbeknownst to you) by doing nothing more than nothing and never wore that rank. You never performed the duties of a Major, and were –in fact– a Captain (promotable) after your 9.5 years. Were you ever a Bn. XO? How much staff time do you have at Bn level and in what shops? When did you attend C&GSC? I doubt seriously your assertion that you would have been promoted to Lt. Col for no other reason than you were still breathing and in the IRR.

2) I called a truce last time not out of some sense of “gentleman’s agreement” or because I had had enough, but because my blog was relatively young and I didn’t want to get the reputation as a blog that was all about ranting or battling other bloggers. I had a vision for this site that had to do with quality content. I didn’t feel our arguments were quality content, and I didn’t feel that I was building a loyal readership by participating.
I now have enough quality content and a loyal enough readership that i feel confident that I can confront your more odious assertions without harming the purpose of the site or having its purpose misconstrued.

I’m not a saint, Kevin, never claimed that I was. I declared some of my drug use, but not all. Some was found out anyway which prevented me from working in military intelligence.
Of course not everyone did it. I never said they did, nor do I attempt to justify my own drug usage. I was a dedicated drug user and have never lied on this blog about that fact. I used pot, opium, crank, crack, LSD, speed, mescaline, prescription drugs, alchohol, and anything else I could get my hands on. About the only thing I never used was injected heroin. I have stated that on this blog before now.
I also sold crack, pot, ecstasy and LSD and lived in a crack house. I sold pounds of pot. I was not a nice person, in fact I was despicable. I did whatever I could to get by and was homeless and filthy for long periods. I was part of a drug network that stretched between Kansas City and Memphis. This drug network blew a friends head of with a shotgun and left him laying in the grass near my apartment.
In the midst of all of that I decided I needed a change and I chose the Army. They saved my life and my soul. The Army instilled in me the self respect that I had lost, taught me about honor and duty, about loyalty, about commitment. My conversion was just as sure and just as dramatic as if I had been Constantine or Saul.
The Army manufactured me out of broken parts, and for that I will remain faithful until my last breath.
I don’t expect you to understand.

First, I appreciate your honesty and I must say I am stunned but also admire you pulling yourself out of that. Given that however, I would have thought you to be more tolerant of other ideas than you are. Some may read your history and say nasty things about it, make assumptions about you that may no longer be true, and put you into a “bucket” where you do not belong (at least anymore).
So, why are you so quick to do the same things to people you do not even know. The only thing you think you know about me is that I am a liberal, against the war and received a medical exemption from deployment. Everything else you have assumed and made up or categorized about me.
Given your history, I would think you to be more tolerant of a person.
Finally, given what you said you have done, I cannot imagine the Army taking you but I guess I am glad they did if they straightened you out.
I am not tolerant in general because I know.
I know what it is like to be broke, not for days, but for years. I know what it is like to have to sleep on park benches, and school rooves, and underpasses, or just plain weeds or sidewalks. I know what addiction is like. I know how it feels to have the need of some chemical crawling up your spine and squeezing you so hard that you feel like your head is going to explode. I know how it feels to want that chemical so bad that you can’t speak or move. I know the single minded torture of addiction.
I know what violence is about. I know what its like to get my teeth knocked in, to have my skull beat against rocks, to have knives stuck in me. I know what it is like to hurt people, to make them cry, to hit them till they beg me to stop, then hit them some more. I know what it is like to have friends stabbed to death, bludgeoned to death, run over, shot and strangled.
I know what hopelessness is. I know what it feels like to be nothing, to be scared to talk to people because you haven’t brushed your teeth in a month; to not want to be in an enclosed space with people because your feet smell so bad people gag; to have worn the same clothes for a month; to not be able to get a job because you can’t wash yourself; to feel like this is all you’ll ever be; to starve because you haven’t eaten in a week.
I was a liberal then and I believed that I needed help. I voted for Democrats in hopes that they would pull me from my misery.

Nivek, there are officers that are Captains, and then there are those that are O-3s. Captains earn the respect of the troops they lead - by example, good leadership, honorable service, fairness, and so on. O-3s are asshats that wear the rank but have not earned the respect to go with it! Can you guess which one you are? BTW…since you haven’t put on the uniform since you got out of the Army and entered the IRR, to me you are still an O-3…to prove me wrong, reenter the military and serve honorably. Or maybe you have a new religious reason for not doing so?
