Dear Frankie

The GoldFalcon-in-laws are wonderful people. My mother-in-law is well aquainted with my disdain for popular Holywood crap. Knowing this she lent me a wonderful little Scottish film called “Dear Frankie”. I happen to love small, independant films like this and I gotta tell you this is no exception. It’s a darker, more complex “Chocolate”, but with more humor. I’ll tell ya that if you have a hard time understanding a good Scottish brogue then have a translator on hand, but this is a powerful, effecting, wonderfuly charming little film.
Did I mention that it has Damien Rice* in the soundtrack?
*For the new initiate to GoldFalcon I happen to hold Damien Rice in the highest possible esteem. He is possibly the best Irish songwriter in decades and one of the best songsmiths of the last three decades period.

Hi Bri. I’m so glad you liked Dear Frankie. It IS a charming little film and I love the music, too. I thought the all the actors did an amazing job with understated performances. The cinematography was exceptional and the story pulls you in. Of course, I think Gerard Butler was amazing but so were the other actors. Lizzie’s mum cracked me up! I have the soundtrack and play it all the time. How nice that we can agree about this movie since you don’t share my passion for Phantom of the Opera. (smile)
