Not Fonda Jane (Russ Vaughn Poem)
April 8th, 2005 by GoldFalcon
I used to frequent a great little Special Forces bar in Fayetteville, NC (that’s just outside Ft. Bragg for those not fortunate enough to have routinely exited aircraft in flight), the proprietor –known universally as ‘Bear’– and his wife were the nicest people one could care to meet. Bear was a Vietnam vet, had worked for various agencies, and was still active in various areas in which owning a bar frequented by SF came in handy. It had G-11 cargo chutes on the ceiling, Polaroids of Noriega’s capture on the wall, and various souveniers brought back from the Central Highlands three decades prior.
It also had a picture of Jane Fonda in every urinal.
This was a vet bar. No dance music, no chrome, no fru fru drinks or ‘dare to bare’ contests, just soldiers. One got the feeling –descending the steps into the basement– of stepping back in time. The jukebox played only 45’s, none of them newer than 1973. I say all of this to set a stage: to me and all other vets that were of the younger generation stepping into that bar was walking on sacred ground. The Vietnam vets in that particular Pub were objects of reverence –elder statesmen and warrior priests.
For that reason you can still drive around Ft. Bragg, NC today and see bumper stickers that are hotly venemous toward Jane Fonda. These stickers reside on vehicles driven by men who were likely born around the time Saigon fell, or even after. Your humble author was born only two years prior to the fall. We took –and take– umbrage by proxy. How dare she. It was for that reason that several years ago, when I heard that Jane Fonda had converted to Christianity I told Mrs. Falcon “Damn!, Now I’ve got to forgive her.”
I’m told that my father-in-law (a three tour Vietnam vet with 1stMarDiv) had a similar reaction.
It was for that last reason (Christian forgiveness), and due to some seemingly remorseful statements Ms. Fonda had made recently that I was going to decline to publish Russ Vaughn’s latest bit of poetry. I understood the sentiment, I had simply decided that if she was truly converted and penitant that I would not condemn her for something she had asked forgiveness for.
Then I read this story.
Thanks for the poem Russ.
Airborne!
Forever Green
Jane Fonda seeks exoneration,
Forgiveness from her traitored nation.
What say you warrors fought that war?
Is forgiveness due that wartime whore?
So rich, so smart, she thought she knew
Much more than us, we bloodied few.
So smug, self-serving, seeking fame,
The rich bitch played her seditious game.
A game that cost me many friends,
Many, thanks to Jane, came to bad ends.
I’ve borne scars forty years or more,
From lies laid on me by this whore.
Self-serving now she sells her tale,
This traitor who should be in jail.
Is it within our souls to grant her grace?
Our souls shout, “No… spit in her face!”
So self assured, she played high stakes,
Telling American prisoners, “That’s the breaks.”
She accused brave men of heinous crimes,
Which were disproved in future times.
And now our country knows the truth
Jane Fonda betrayed us in our youth.
She asks us now to read her book,
Americans, the folks this bitch forsook.
So now she crawls, her conscience bare,
To tell us she screwed up back there.
Well, hell, we knew that way back then,
This Hanoi Jane who helped them win.
It was glory then for this airhead star,
But forever now she’ll bear the scar
A scarlet letter she’ll now wear,
A stench forever in her hair.
So Jane, dear, you must realize,
You’re the devil in a helmet in our eyes.
When Vietnam vets raise up their toasts
It’s to damn your soul, to salute our ghosts.
We swear, we living, to our long-dead brave,
We’ll live to piss upon your grave.
So Jane, good fortune, unforeseen,
Your traitor’s grave will be forever green.

Way to go Russ! I was enlisted in the Navy in Aug. of 1974. I never made it to Viet Nam but plenty of my instructors had been there. The men and women who served and sacrificed in that war will always have my respect and thanks, where as Jane will never receive an inkling of either. Its too bad sedition has become the hollywood fad. Jane won the Oscar for that.

RE:
You know, I bet there are more than a few Vietnam Vets who will hold on to their last breath until after a night raid to piss on her tombstone.
The problem will be if they can wait long enough for their turn…it’s gonna be a really long line.
I recommend the “eldest SF trooper” alive be designated to plan the mission, along with the senior POW, so they can co-command. This solemn duty shall be passed down until completed. The TOE will be a put together at the joint force, but one that makes a lasting impression on 1st amendment rights.
Although I didn’t fight in VietNam, I too lost many….relatives, friends and most of all, the love of my life. I am a Christian, but is it a sin to refuse to forgive one who is obviously repenting for a buck? Only the same idiots that marched and screamed with John Kerry will buy her book, but they are also the biggest mouths of all!!! God Bless every vet out there.
Good post and poem. The only time forgiveness is given is when the repentence is to the people they wronged and is truly meant. To accuse the right-wing whackos tells me she hasn’t a clue. She never has. Oh, and BTW, forgiveness must be given to the millions that had to left behind in that Communist hell hole. Until they are free…I say, “Go to hell, Jane.” Her group caused millions to die, and I am unwilling to grant eternal life to this bitch. Yes, I am a Christian. Not a very good one when it comes to her and what she stands for, though. God, please forgive me.
Thanks for visiting and leaving comments. I’m glad to see that Russ’ poem was well received.
Go for it Russ. No Vietnam Era vet, especially a combat vet can forget Hanoi Jane!
My dad was a fighter pilot in WWII, Korea, and flew more than 100 missions over North Vietnam. Too bad he didn’t have a run to take out the anti-aircraft guns around Hanoi at about the time Hanoi Jane was “visiting”. No one can convince me, and especially not Jane Fonda, that she is in the least bit repentant for her words and deeds. She will have a lot to answer for someday before a higher authority than any of us. It’s an event to savor!!! God bless our veterans, of all eras, and God bless our soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines today. I am so proud of them all.
Thank you for this eloquent prose, Mr. Vaughn.

Thanks for the poem. Been a long time since I was in Fayetteville. Trying to figure out where the bar is, don’t remember one downstairs, just the joints on Hay Street and Bragg Blvd, and a few on the side streets.
I was a dependent wife in those days. I hated Jane Fonda for what she did. And then she compounded the mess of her life with Tom Hayden.
She will forever be Hanoi Jane to me. I don’t see her movies, can’t stomach the thought of paying money to see something that made her rich enough to throw away the values that America stands for.
You were very right to publish this excellent piece of work.
Russ, that was a truly standout poem and it touched me so deeply. My dad fought in Vietnam as many other good men like himself. I too am a Christian, but what Jane Fonda did was absolutely disgraceful. Also since she claims to be a born again christian why is she still dabbling in the occult?!the Bible clearly speaks against divination and witchcraft. So Jane read the good book again and what it says about repentance,It seems that you haven’t any understanding what that gift to sinners is all about. If you are a christian as you claim people should know by the life you lead and the example you set.It seems that you have done neither. You are as Winston churchill said”if you are in your 20’sand you are conservative you have no heart”but if you are over 40 and still a liberal you have no brain”!So go figure! You and the rest of the treasonous baseheads have ovbiously never grew up;you still behave as a bunch of silly teenagers! All of you are nothing but a bunch of rich spoiled brats, who still pout and stomp off because the American people see you for the screwups you really are.
Thanks for the replies, the bar was called “The Pub”, it was on Bragg Blvd. about 1/4th a mile from “The Flaming Mug”. It was in the basement of a little shop building. THe were one of the few bars in Fayetteville who would run a tab, and if you drank all 112 beers on the menu you were rewarded with your name on a plaque on the wall.
Bear had a heart attack in 2000 and sold the pub. The new owners stripped out the millitaria, put in colored lights and a mirror ball and a new jukebox and arcade games. I am sure they were mystified when people stopped coming. They went under a few months later.
Hanoi Jane
Jane Fonda is nothing
****
****
But the model for the picture
That goes on a urinal cake
Is nothing but a complete fraud
An out and out traitor and a fake
She should have gone to jail
She should have done time
She’s only a legend to those
Who don’t use their mind
She’s pimping her lousy book
She’s an opportunistic whore
She’ll say whatever she has to
To take in another score
She wants to make all nicey nice
Like it’s all about live and let live
But as a Vietnam Vet I remember
And I’ll never forget
Never forgive

Neil thanks for the poem you submitted it is almost as good as Russ Vaughn’s poem.Since it is hard to get my dad to read a blog;he’s old fashioned,I’mgonna get a print out of these poem’s so he can read em’.My dad Larry Gilliam was a member of third Marine Division from 68-70.He is also aware of ‘Hanoi Jane’s Ponze scheme she’s got going now.Your and many other veterans have every right to be angry with Jane and now she has to live the rest of her life with the scarlet letter T over her head.It is high time these people learn that treason doesn’t pay!!
Loved the poem and think I recall the bar in question. In a little strip mall complex near the “Heart of Fayetteville” hotel/motel… Good little breakfast joint on the corner of the complex??? Went down stairs to a wood-grained, paneled reading room as I remember. Tons of beers and if you drank 10 Fosters (big cans) you put a dollar on the ceiling. A lot of SF dudes hung out there. It was right on the Blvd and was a very cool place. It’s been over 25 years since I was a “blaster” but that sure brought back some memories. Thanks!
Jihad Jane Rides Again
Jihad Jane rides again
She’s back on tour
Going by a new name
But either one you choose
She still comes up lame
She still comes up a traitor
She still comes up scum
She still comes off as a
Completely self absorbed bum
Now she’s got herself a bus
That runs on vegetable oil
And still workin that mouth
That makes a patriot’s blood boil
She’s such a fraud
She’s barely fake apologized
For Vietnam now it’s Iraqi Veterans
About whom she wants to spread lies
Sing it at her funeral
Write it on her grave stone
There are sins against warriors
For which one can never atone
